State Engineer Arrested in Morocco for Operating Illegal Bar in Nador Resort

The elements of the judicial police of Nador proceeded to the arrest of a state engineer who was managing a clandestine bar in the seaside resort of Bocana.
In addition to the state engineer, the owner of the premises, a waitress and a waiter were also arrested, reported the Arabic-language daily Assabah. Their arrest took place on Sunday, November 13, during a raid carried out in the clandestine bar located in the Bocana Beach seaside resort. During the search of the bar, 104 bottles of wine, refrigerators and a computer were found and seized.

After their arrest, the four defendants were questioned. It emerged from the interviews that the bar manager did not have an alcohol license. The investigators were greatly surprised to discover that the manager is a state engineer who served as a senior official at the Agency for the Development of the Marchica Lagoon Site, before being appointed by the governor in March 2020 as provincial director of investment.
After being brought before the prosecutor on Tuesday, the public prosecutor’s office decided to place the owner of the premises and the bar manager in custody. As for the two other defendants, they are being prosecuted while on provisional release.
