Standard Liège’s Mehdi Carcela Sidelined After Positive COVID-19 Test

Tested positive for Covid-19, Moroccan player Mehdi Carcela will miss the next matches of the Belgian championship with Standard de Liège.
The Belgian club preferred to submit the players who went to defend the colors of their country in the national team to screening tests upon their return. "The results of the latest Covid-19 tests carried out on Wednesday unfortunately indicate that Mehdi Carcela is positive. He will therefore not be able to be selected for our next match scheduled for this Saturday against Eupen," commented Standard on its website, reports La Dernière Heure.
At 31 years old, Mehdi Carcela has only played 11 matches this season with the Liège club and is often used by coach Philippe Montanier as a luxury substitute. He will therefore miss the match against Eupen on Saturday and could also miss the important Europa League match next Thursday against Lech Poznan. Bad news for the Belgian club, which necessarily needs a victory, specifies the same source.
