Standard Liège Fans Cheer Mehdi Carcela’s Return to Starting Lineup

Moroccan international Medhi Carcela made a triumphant return. The supporters of Standard de Liège could not help but express their joy at seeing him return after several weeks of absence.
Mehdi Carcela started with a bang with a starting spot for the first time this season in the league. It was on Sunday against Courtrai in a match that ended in a victory for Standard de Liège (2-1). He was able to count on the support of the supporters who gave him the strength to be at his best throughout the match.
They chanted his name just before kick-off. "That immediately put me in my game, especially after these complicated months. I was surprised and touched. Welcoming me like that, it moved me and healed my wounds. I am a Liège man and Standard, it’s in the blood," said the Atlas Lion.
When asked about the reasons for his absence, the player explained that he had struggled with Covid-19 and confinement. "My football was not the cause. It took me more time psychologically. The coach and the management knew that I was not well. It’s been a month now that I’m doing better. I’m enjoying it again and I’m smiling again," explains the Moroccan player.
