Standard de Liège Coach Expresses Concern Over Mehdi Carcela’s Fitness and Form

Moroccan international Mehdi Carcela no longer seduces at Standard de Liège. His performances displease the coach of the club in search of players "at the maximum of their abilities".
The physical form of the Moroccan player raises questions. In front of the press, Philippe Montanier, coach at Standard de Liège, mentioned the case of his protégé, injured in the knee, last Tuesday.
According to him, Mehdi is not at the peak of his form and has not yet reached his cruising speed. "We know that Mehdi was strongly marked by Covid-19. In addition, he injured his knee on Tuesday, but he is doing better," he lamented.
Due to this drop in performance, the Atlas Lion is still on the bench during the group’s match with Beerschot this Monday. Continuing his explanations, the coach of the Belgian club specifies that Standard de Liège is looking for complete players, who attack and defend, as modern football requires. "Look at Lewandowski with Bayern Munich, the benchmark this year, or Salah and Firmino at Liverpool..." he added, disappointed.
Mehdi Carcela’s last appearance in competition dates back to August 1st. However, he had made a good impression by offering victory to his club in a friendly match against Stade de Reims.
