Standard Liège Drops Star Midfielder Amallah Amid Contract Dispute

Following the sidelining of Moroccan international Selim Amallah, Standard has reacted, explaining that the sanction was taken due to the non-compliance with certain commitments made as part of the contract negotiations. A reason rejected by the player’s entourage, who evokes his refusal to extend his contract.

The attacking midfielder was not in the lineup on Sunday for the Standard-Sporting Charleroi match. A shock of the championship for which he was not even listed on the match sheet. Yet the player was neither injured nor ill. Moreover, Amallah was informed of this decision shortly before the training session by his coach.

According to management, the sanction is not related to the player’s contractual situation, whose contract expires at the end of the season. The Atlas Lion is in open conflict with his club, since he has openly expressed his desire to leave, recalls La Dernière heure.

Questioned, the club’s coach Ronny Deila declared: "it is a club decision, I deal with it. We’ll see what happens. There are negotiations, each one asks for the right value, respect and honesty. We decided together, but I don’t want to be integrated into the negotiations. I coach my team, we have to talk about the sports, the group, but I don’t discuss with the agents. It’s Pierre and Fergal who manage it," he added.

This situation has not left some of the player’s teammates indifferent, who have expressed their sadness. This is the case of Bope Bokadi who declared after the match: "it was difficult for us. Since we had an important match, we wanted to play it first. We’ll see what management decides for the future. Selim is an important player for us. Personally, I hope he will come back. We didn’t have any contact with him, because the decision came late in the week. We’ll discuss at the beginning of the week to see what we can give him in terms of courage."
