Standard Liège Sidelines World Cup Star Amallah Amid Transfer Speculation

The director of Standard de Liège, Pierre Locht, recently spoke about the situation of Moroccan international Selim Amallah, sidelined by the club for "non-compliance with certain commitments made in the context of contract negotiations."
The Selim Amallah case is making headlines at the Liège club. After a remarkable performance at the 2022 World Cup with the national team, the defensive midfielder is attracting a lot of interest on the transfer market. Several sources have announced his imminent departure from Standard in the winter.
In an interview with Het Laatste Nieuws, Pierre Locht, the CEO of the Liège club, returned to his situation, estimating that "playing him now would be the death of Standard." "Standard will not do the work for another club. It’s not up to us to create added value for players who will leave for free. It would be a dangerous signal for our other players. It would be saying: You can always keep playing and then leave for free," he said.
And to add: "However, the simplest would be to let them play. For the board of directors, for the coach, for the players. But it’s not in the interest of the club. And that’s the only thing that counts."
