Spanish Police Bust Massive Cannabis Smuggling Operation Disguised as Orange Shipment

In Spain, members of the Drugs and Organized Crime Unit (UDYCO) in coordination with the provincial police narcotics brigade proceeded to arrest two Moroccans and seize a large quantity of cannabis in the Malaga region.

It all started with the suspicions of the agents of the Drugs and Organized Crime Unit (UDYCO). They noticed a car driving suspiciously near a white unmarked truck on the A-7 highway between Vélez-Málaga and Malaga. They then decided to intercept them. They were later joined by the provincial police narcotics brigade. Together, they managed to immobilize the truck at a highway exit. The small car had time to escape.

During the search of the truck, the agents came across several pallets of oranges. But the unusually bright color of certain fruits that had an abnormal texture led them to conduct a more thorough examination. They discovered that they were counterfeits, hollowed out and filled with cannabis. They seized 1,579 kg of drugs. They also arrested the truck driver and his companion, both of Moroccan nationality, for drug trafficking.

After being presented to the 10th Examining Court of Malaga, the two suspects were placed in pre-trial detention. Currently, the investigations are continuing to identify other members of the trafficking network, particularly the occupants of the vehicle that escaped.
