Spanish Police Bust Illegal Gun Rings Supplying Moroccan Drug Traffickers

In Spain, several clandestine workshops for the manufacture of weapons exported to Ceuta and Melilla and delivered to Moroccan drug traffickers have been dismantled. The Spanish police have arrested several workers.

The Spanish police have achieved a feat. Last Sunday, the police elements carried out searches of several clandestine workshops where they seized a large quantity of pistols, rifles and Kalashnikov machine guns and documents relating to financial transactions with Moroccans residing in Ceuta and Melilla, reports Ceuta actualidad. They also arrested several workers. Once exported to the two cities, the weapons are delivered to Moroccan drug traffickers. The latter are at the head of drug trafficking networks.

The dismantling of these clandestine arms manufacturing workshops revives the debate on the insecurity prevailing in the two cities. In the eyes of the president of the Association of the Great Rif for Human Rights, Saïd Chramti, interviewed by Assabah, the increase in illegal arms and ammunition factories in Spain threatens the security of the region. He indicated that crime is on the rise and that these criminal gangs continue to invest in new markets to sell their weapons.

Several associations share this view, and warn about the spread of firearms. They call on the Moroccan authorities to strengthen controls at all border crossing points. Ceuta and Melilla have been the scene of several shootings, which have left several injured, between rival drug trafficking gangs.
