Morocco Tightens Border Security as Migrant Surge to Ceuta Subsides

The massive influx of migrants to Ceuta has prompted Morocco to deploy security forces to maintain order along the border and prevent forced crossings.
Already on Tuesday afternoon, the huge crowds of migrants who had gathered in front of the borders of Ceuta and Melilla had diminished. The elements of the Royal Gendarmerie and the Auxiliary Forces placed on the roads leading to the two enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla have somewhat deterred the immigration candidates who are not only Moroccans. There are Subsaharans from Fnideq, where a curfew is mentioned to have been decreed, without any official confirmation.
Since Sunday, the Spanish authorities have been facing an unprecedented situation. Clashes took place on Tuesday morning between the Spanish border guards and the crowds of migrants in front of the Trajal border post. The Spanish government did not hesitate to deploy army units along the borders.
Among the 6,000 migrants who arrived in Ceuta, 2,700 have been sent back and the minors have been installed in the 250 centers set up by the Spanish government.
