Spain Opens 250 Centers to House Migrant Minors After Ceuta Influx

Faced with the influx of migrants, especially minors who arrived in Ceuta between Monday and Tuesday, Spain has opened 250 reception centers in Andalusia to house them. Of different nationalities including Moroccan, these minors were counted among the 6,000 irregular migrants who reached Ceuta by swimming or on inflatable boats.
In 24 hours, Spain experienced a record migration flow. 6,000 irregular migrants, including entire families and minors, invaded Ceuta, forcing the authorities to make decisions to ensure the safety of the youngest among them. The Junta de Andalucía has thus set up 250 centers to accommodate an impressive number of minors who arrived in Ceuta from Morocco or those who could arrive in Andalusia in the coming days.
On Tuesday morning, clashes broke out when Spanish soldiers, the national and local police, and the Civil Guard tried to stop the arrival of migrants. Throwing stones from the migrants’ side, and the use of tear gas and non-lethal weapons from the security forces’ side to disperse the gathered crowd that wanted to cross the Ceuta barriers.
Faced with sudden migration pressure in the two cities of Ceuta and Melilla, the Spanish government has offered 30 million euros to Morocco to restore order in the area in order to contain a situation that has become alarming.
