Spanish Parliament Probes TVE’s Controversial Morocco Map Including Western Sahara

The United Left (Izquierda Unida - IU) has just addressed a question to the government in the Congress of Deputies, asking for explanations on the broadcast, in a television news on TVE, of a map of Morocco including the Sahara. The public service channel had indicated that it was a "human error".
The spokesman for IU in Congress, Enrique Santiago, is the initiator of this question. The Sumar deputy has asked the interim Executive whether it has given "instructions" to TVE to use this map of Morocco including the Sahara in the news. He also wants to know "what actions it intends to take to prevent the future dissemination of such information contrary to the United Nations agreements and Spain’s position on Western Sahara".
To recall, the midday news on Spanish Television (TVE), announcing the organization of the 2030 World Cup by Spain, Portugal and Morocco, broadcast a map of the kingdom including the Sahara. "It’s one thing for Morocco to have tried to steal the show by announcing the designation of the 2030 World Cup candidacy before Spain, Portugal or FIFA itself, and another thing would be to bless, by action or omission, an illegal occupation and unilateral plans on the future of Western Sahara," Santiago explained.
Contacted by El Independiente, the RTVE communication service said it was a "human error" that has already been corrected. An explanation that did not convince the Spanish public opinion, which recalled that the public service media have recently committed other "errors" of this kind.
