New Spanish Foreign Minister Prioritizes Repairing Relations with Morocco

Freshly appointed following the government reshuffle, José Manuel Albares, the new head of Spanish diplomacy, has made the restoration of dialogue between Madrid and Rabat one of his priorities.
During the swearing-in ceremony that took place on Monday, the new Minister of Foreign Affairs promised to "strengthen relations with Morocco, a great friend," reports El Pais, adding that Morocco has ceased to consider González Laya as a valid interlocutor after the Brahim Ghali crisis.
Disembarked from Paris where he was ambassador, Albares’ appointment is seen as a first step to correct the trajectory of the strongly shaken relations. "I have worked with the head of government by advising him, learning with him, always in the field of international relations," he said.
With this appointment, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has decided to turn the page on the crisis in the government reshuffle to regain dialogue with the neighboring country," the media reveals, specifying that Laya has been accused of having "favored the relationship with the Polisario and Algeria" which supports the separatists.
