Spanish Far-Right Party Vox Faces Prosecution Over Anti-Moroccan Social Media Post
Saturday 21 September 2019, by
The information contained in the message from the Spanish far-right party, Vox, about the young Moroccan elected in a local contest, is recovered and subjected to a thorough analysis by the Public Prosecutor’s Office. The public authority intends to detect grounds for legal action.
The vehemence of the statements made by the Vox Party continues to cause controversy. Indeed, for having been elected Queen of the Festivities of the municipality of Granada, a young Moroccan girl has faced strong criticism on social networks, including from Vox, which has not been without impact on the 16-year-old girl, reports Granada Hoy.
Francisco Hernández, Prosecutor Delegate in Granada against hate crimes and discrimination, does not intend to leave this act unpunished. To this end, he has requested all the data from the Civil Guard, with regard to which the girl’s mother has filed a complaint for the moral prejudice and suffering that the Vox message could have caused this family and, in particular, the young teenager.
On the evening of the election of the young Moroccan, Vox had published, on social networks, then deleted later, following the criticism, a message followed by an offensive comment: "Young Moroccan girl living in Otura for two years. Apparently, in Otura, there was no other girl from the city, Spanish from Otura, and more beautiful...!".
The Prosecutor’s Office will have to analyze the message and identify the "criminal entity" and its "personal and collective impact". For her part, the girl’s mother said that this type of message "hurt her very much". "According to her account, the girl was informed of it through friends who sent her the message.
"The young girl cried all afternoon. It’s a very strong comment. They have no shame and we reported it to the Civil Guard for xenophobia," the mother said after reporting the facts.
However, the girl’s mother stressed the very positive support she is receiving from the neighbors of the town in which she is very integrated and where she has many friends.
