Spanish Far-Right Leader Charged for Inciting Violence Against Moroccan Migrants

The Madrid provincial prosecutor’s office has filed a complaint against María Isabel Medina Peralta for having "incited" violence towards Moroccan and Muslim migrants during a demonstration in front of the Moroccan embassy in Madrid on May 18, in the midst of a migration crisis.

Medina Peralta is accused of a hate crime against Moroccans and Muslims. During a demonstration organized in May by the movement she leads, and which had not been authorized by the Government Delegation, the defendant "exhorted violence towards Moroccan and Muslim migrants," the prosecutor’s office specifies in the indictment. The demonstration resulted in clashes between protesters and law enforcement, and the arrest of five individuals for resisting authority and disturbing public order. Seven agents were slightly injured in these skirmishes, according to Europa Press.

The prosecutor’s office recalled some of the racist remarks made by the defendant. Selected excerpts: "We are here to denounce the indecency of our politicians who look the other way while we are undergoing an unprecedented racial identity usurpation [...]. We are not going to allow the migrants who are arriving in mass to undermine our social cohesion, our culture, our moral identity." "We are not going to let them invade us. Death to the invader!" Medina Peralta had launched.

Several racist slogans like "This is not immigration, it’s an invasion" were also chanted during these demonstrations, the prosecutor’s office points out. Banners with hostile messages towards Morocco, such as: "Neither the king, nor the government, nor the EU will stop Moroccan expansionism" and "Mohammed VI, remove your dirty hands from our land... Forward Spain" could be read.
