Spanish Authorities to Present Findings on Suspected Moroccan Terrorist Attack in Murcia

The Civil Guard’s Counter-Terrorism Unit (UCE-2) will present its conclusions on Monday to the National Court at the end of the investigation into the Moroccan who died on Friday, September 17 in Roldán (Murcia), after causing the death of one person and injuring several others. He would be the author of a terrorist act.
The young Moroccan arrived in Spain at the age of 13 and stayed in an unaccompanied minors’ center in Valencia until he came of age, before moving to Torre Pacheco (Murcia). He died on Friday, September 17 at the wheel of a vehicle borrowed from a friend, after crashing at over 120 kilometers per hour on the terrace of a restaurant in the Roldán neighborhood, causing the death of a 47-year-old Venezuelan customer and injuring two other customers. After the accident, the Moroccan, trapped in the vehicle, committed suicide by stabbing himself in the chest with a knife, reports La Razon.
The young man also left handwritten letters in the vehicle in which he claims that he was carrying out a "terrorist act". He also denounced the fact that Islam was not respected in the Mislata center where he was welcomed as an unaccompanied minor.

According to the investigations, the young man did not show any signs of radicalization, but underwent a radical change in the 15 days preceding the events. The National Court, based on the Civil Guard report, will be responsible for qualifying the facts and determining whether or not it is a terrorist act carried out alone. It may request the assistance of any structure such as the Association of Victims of Terrorism (AVT) in order to shed light on this case.
For the advisor of this association, Miguel Folguera, the AVT, in addition to closely following the legal actions, "offers legal, personal, medical and psychological assistance to the victim’s relatives and the injured in order to support them in these difficult times". The association will testify on Monday before the judge of the National Court as part of this case.
