Spanish Army Air Defense Exercises Ceuta Morocco Message
The Spanish Army has launched new air defense exercises in Ceuta, with 35/90 cannons and Mistral missiles. Officially, it is an annual training. But the location, just facing Morocco, gives these maneuvers a particular significance.
In Ceuta, the Spanish Army continues to maintain its military posture. An anti-aircraft artillery unit of the 30th Mixed Artillery Regiment, the RAMIX-30, has engaged in new exercises on the city’s coastline.

These trainings officially aim to maintain the operational readiness of soldiers and strengthen their capabilities in the field of air defense. But the choice of Ceuta, in direct contact with Morocco, also gives these maneuvers a political dimension difficult to ignore.
According to local media in Ceuta, the exercises notably mobilize 35/90 anti-aircraft cannons and Mistral missiles, an infrared-guided portable system. This equipment is designed to respond to short-range air threats, particularly at low altitude.
Mistral missiles just kilometers from Morocco
The message remains officially military and technical. The Spanish Army speaks of an annual preparation program, intended to improve coordination between units, test operational procedures and maintain equipment in working condition.
But in a city as sensitive as Ceuta, each exercise takes on another meaning. By displaying its air defense on this disputed territory, Madrid reminds that it maintains a rapid reaction capacity in a strategic zone, just a few kilometers from Moroccan territory.
The 35/90 cannons allow for treating nearby targets, while Mistral missiles offer more flexibility against mobile objectives. The overall aim is to improve response to low-altitude air threats.
These maneuvers are part of a series of exercises regularly organized by the Spanish military command in Ceuta. Artillery, Legion and other units conduct recurring training there, taking advantage of the city’s geographical position to simulate different operational scenarios.

Officially, therefore, it is merely routine training. But for Morocco, seeing Spain test its air defense in Ceuta cannot be a neutral signal.
