Spain Bolsters Military Presence in Ceuta Amid Rising Mediterranean Tensions

At a time when Morocco is intensifying its arms race, Spain is strengthening the presence and preparation of the units deployed in Ceuta and Melilla.
Is Spain afraid of the recovery of the cities of Ceuta and Melilla? Is it preparing for any eventuality in a context of growing challenges in the western Mediterranean? Military exercises, maneuvers and deployments of all kinds continue in these cities. The latest is an anti-aircraft firing exercise conducted by the Spanish Army Artillery Academy, on the "Almina" firing range in Ceuta, with the support of the Mixed Artillery Regiment No. 30 (RAMIX 30). This exercise involved the participation of sergeant students in training, reports El Debate.
The 35mm GDF-007 anti-aircraft gun is the weapon used in these maneuvers. Designed for defense against low and very low altitude air attacks, this Swiss-made weapon is a highly accurate twin-barreled artillery piece, capable of hitting moving targets at a speed of 1,175 meters per second and with a rate of fire estimated at 550 rounds per minute per barrel. The 35mm GDF-007 anti-aircraft gun is equipped with a SKYDOR fire control system, which optimizes aiming and response to air threats.
With a maximum effective range of 4,000 meters, it can intercept targets before they enter the danger zone for critical infrastructure. This weapon is also capable of firing AHEAD ammunition, designed to destroy drones, missiles and aircraft with a cloud of sub-projectiles at the moment of impact. According to the same source, its versatility and ability to deploy on various terrains make the GDF-007 an essential piece for the defense of the Ceuta sky, where the army maintains constant surveillance against potential threats.
