Spain to Train Morocco in Migrant Rescue and Border Control with EU Funding

The Spanish government will soon provide Morocco with fine equipment as well as lessons and training in the fight against illegal immigration, which it may need during the commonly called successful operations: the rescue of migrants.

According to Spanish media sources, Spain plans to soon provide ships, computer tools and means of communication to Morocco, while providing it with training "to prevent the arrival of migrants in Spain," according to Eldiario.es. Because in fact, these are specifically rescue operations, whether the migrants need help or not.

This initiative is part of a "cooperation project funded by the European Union, to strengthen Morocco’s search and rescue capabilities". The watchword is to provide more resources to Morocco so that it can first intercept migrants and, according to the same source, "send them back to the point of departure before reaching Spanish waters". The media does not mince words to reveal the undesirability of migrants and condemn illegal immigration. So why call it a rescue?

In addition, the Moroccan agents in charge of this type of "rescue" will be entitled to training activities.

Eldiario specifies: "The Spanish government has been negotiating for months with Morocco to put an end to the arrival of pateras in Spain. To strengthen the rescue capabilities of the Alaouite kingdom, the Minister of Development, José Luis Ábalos, offered the Moroccan government in January its "collaboration" for the promotion of a Moroccan rescue service".

"The proposal of the Spanish government has been appreciated in Morocco," the newspaper is keen to point out on the reaction from the Moroccan side.
