Following the death of two people on Wednesday in the sinking of a boat off the Spanish coast, the interim Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, announced that the Spanish government is reiterating its trust in Morocco in the fight against migrant trafficking in the Strait of Gibraltar.
During a meeting with the Spanish media in Seville, Margarita Robles discussed the perfect collaboration between Spain and the Kingdom of Morocco in the fight against migrant trafficking in the Strait of Gibraltar.
According to the interim Minister of Defense, Spain is working closely with Morocco to put an end to the networks of smugglers and mafias that illegally transport migrants. "We have full confidence in our collaboration with the Moroccan government," she told the press.
The Spanish news agency EFE, which reports the minister’s remarks, states that according to Margarita Robles, Morocco is doing "an excellent job" for these actions undertaken "in the context of the European Union".
According to EFE, the Spanish Civil Guard, which had come to help 24 other passengers of an inflatable boat, recalled that on Wednesday, "a migrant died and a minor disappeared at sea, on board a boat a few meters from the beach of Castilnovo, in Conil de la Frontera (Cádiz).
