Rescue Operation Underway as 22 Migrants Missing off Spanish Coast

According to a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), 49 migrants of sub-Saharan origin left the Moroccan coast by boat, bound for Spain. Missing since Tuesday, the boat was spotted in the Alboran Sea by the Spanish maritime rescue services on Wednesday, June 19, 2019.
The maritime services of Salvamento Maritimo, alerted by an NGO, managed to rescue 27 people including two women and a child, after launching a large-scale search operation. 22 migrants are reported missing at sea, according to the Spanish news agency, EFE.
With the help of a maritime rescue helicopter, the Salvamento Maritimo services were able to locate the boat, 18 km north of Cape Tres Forcas. Three men in serious condition, two women and a child were transported to the Almería hospital to receive the necessary care. The other migrants will be transferred to another center.
The rescue was made possible thanks to the intervention of the Spanish maritime services, the Spanish Air Force and the European Border and Coast Guard Agency. The sighting, which was made around 3 pm on Wednesday, allowed the rescue of 27 migrants of sub-Saharan origin.
