Spain Tightens Baggage Checks for Moroccan Travelers, Disrupting Summer Transit

The Marhaba 2019 operation will certainly experience disruptions this summer, following the new control measures imposed by the Spanish authorities, particularly on international buses that provide transportation for MREs between the two shores.
Since May 8, all transit passengers will have to undergo rigorous baggage checks at the port of Algeciras. A troublesome operation that will cause a loss of time, inconvenience to passengers and carriers, as well as damage to some products that require ambient temperature.
The new control provisions require the physical presence of passengers despite the compliance of the luggage, which does not suit the passengers who were used to sending their luggage with members of their families.
As for road transport professionals, they feel aggrieved by this abusive blockage and denounce the provocative and hostile acts of the Spanish authorities, which go against the exercise of their function in total transparency and prevent them from transporting MREs between the two shores.
