Port of Algeciras Faces Delays, Impacting Spanish-Moroccan Trade

The Iberian press has recently denounced numerous delays observed at the Spanish port of Algeciras. The border control post is being pointed out. Indeed, this is where the control of Spanish imports from Morocco is carried out.
An essential link in the chain of Spanish imports, largely from Morocco, the port of Algeciras is suffering. And for good reason! Spanish freight forwarders have called on the authorities of this port "to take the matter in hand and speed up the work of this key element of the national economy", reports L’Economiste.
Indeed, the newspaper notes, there is a significant lack of equipment and human resources at this post. L’Economiste mentions "a single scanner and half a dozen employees, for the activity of controlling imports by trucks". Which is totally abnormal, especially when we know that Algeciras is the largest Spanish port, while "the port of TangerMed has 7 scanners including two doubles (capable of scanning two trucks simultaneously) and about thirty agents".
This situation has already caused a number of inconveniences last year where "the control center facilities of the Spanish port had recorded waiting times of nearly 30 hours, with peaks of 72 hours during the holidays", the newspaper points out, stressing that at the very least, this situation that has been dragging on for several years at the port of Algeciras does not encroach on activities at the port of TangerMed.
Indeed, reports L’Economiste, "the Moroccan mega-port has managed to diversify its connections and reduce its dependence on the port of Algeciras, by setting up several connections with Spanish and European ports outside the Strait region".
