Spain Relocates Moroccan Migrant Minors from Ceuta to Mainland Regions

A group of 31 Moroccan minors taken care of by the Ceuta government embarked on Wednesday for Galicia (20) and Extremadura (11) as part of the operation to distribute 200 Moroccan migrants, coordinated by the Ministry of Social Affairs with the communities of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands.

This group of 31 minors is the largest recorded since June 11 when the distribution operation started with the transfer of 11 migrants to the Balearic Islands, 13 to Andalusia, and 8 to Castile and León. The objective is to reduce the number of at least a thousand migrants still taken care of by the local authorities or who continue to wander the streets of Ceuta, after their massive arrival in May in the autonomous city.

Sources from the Ministry of Social Affairs confirmed to Europa Press the departure of the 20 minor migrants for Galicia and 11 others to Extremadura. Other transfers of migrants are planned in the coming days to La Rioja (5), Catalonia (15), Aragon (9) and Madrid (20). Those of Cantabria (7), Asturias (11), Castilla-La Mancha (14), the Valencian Community (13), Murcia (7), Navarre (6) and Euskadi (8) will take place at a later date, the same source specifies.

In total, nearly 850 Moroccan minors have been taken care of by the regional government in a sports center and in the Tarajal and Piniers warehouses. Several others continue to wander the streets of Ceuta. For the moment, all attempts at family reunification of the minors with their families have failed, the Moroccan authorities refusing the parents to reach the border to allow the agents of the Child Protection Service to attend the reunions.
