Spain's Far-Right Vox Party Warns of Moroccan Economic Threat to Ceuta

Vox remains convinced that Morocco wants to stifle Ceuta and deplores the passivity of the government. It has just sent it a question to ask what actions it intends to take to counter "Morocco’s latest initiative", the commercial zone under construction a few kilometers from the border with the autonomous city.

This commercial project carried by the Tanger Med Zones platform, will, according to Vox deputy Teresa Lopez, "generate an economic, commercial, industrial and tourist development hub" of the area, to the detriment of Ceuta. The far-right party representative recalled that "Morocco has developed a strategy of isolation and economic asphyxiation of Ceuta and Melilla, long before the health crisis" and that it has "taken significant steps" in this direction.

But Pedro Sanchez’s Executive does not consider these actions by Morocco as threats to Spain. In response to similar questions, the government has always assured that it is working to "maintain good neighborly relations with Morocco, a friendly country and a strategic partner" and that it will "always defend the territorial integrity of Spain, as well as the well-being and interests of the Spanish people".

The Vox deputy also denounced the inaction of Sanchez’s Executive in the face of Morocco’s annexationist desires regarding Ceuta and Melilla. "The government continues to bow to a growing neighbor. Months go by and it really does nothing to reverse the situation in which Ceuta and Melilla find themselves, which are being suffocated by Morocco," she lamented.
