Spain Faces Escalating Threats from Polisario Front Over Western Sahara Stance

The Polisario Front has been constantly threatening Spain since Pedro Sanchez decided to support the Moroccan autonomy plan for the Sahara. These threats made in recent weeks by the leader of the Front, Brahim Ghali, must be taken very seriously by Spain, given the terrorist past of the separatist movement.
"Spain will pay dearly for its change of position on the Sahara," Brahim Ghali recently declared, threatening Spain that it must assume the consequences of its actions. The leader of the Polisario Front seems to have already forgotten that this country welcomed him in April 2021 for health reasons, causing a serious diplomatic crisis with Morocco, recalls La Razón.

On Sunday, the Chief of the General Staff of the Sahrawi Liberation Army (ELPS), Mohamed Luali Akeik, announced that the Polisario will extend the conflict to the "occupied Sahrawi cities" such as Laâyoune, Dakhla, Smara and Boujdour, "without affecting civilians". Spanish companies with interests in the Sahara have also been "summoned" in November by the Polisario to leave the region, announcing that the war against Morocco will intensify.

These various threats from the Polisario Front recall the time when they attacked all kinds of targets, including Bou Craa Phosphate workers and fishermen from the Canary Islands, Andalusia, Galicia, the Basque Country, etc. In total, the Polisario would have caused 289 victims in its attacks against Spain, between 1973 and 1986.
