Spain Extends Closure of Ceuta and Melilla Borders with Morocco Until October 31

The borders of Ceuta and Melilla with Morocco will remain closed until October 31 "subject to possible modification", according to an order from the Spanish Ministry of the Interior published on Saturday in the Official Journal of the State (BOE).
The order extends by one month the criteria for applying temporary restrictions on non-essential travel from third countries to the European Union and the Schengen area for reasons of security and public health related to the Covid-19 health crisis.
This new extension of the closure of the Tarajal border crossing takes effect from October 1 at 00:00 and expires on October 31 at midnight, "subject to possible modification due to a change in circumstances or new recommendations at the European Union (EU) level", informs El Faro de Ceuta.

Spain and Morocco are preparing to resume their diplomatic relations, after several months of crisis caused by the entry of Brahim Ghali into Spain under a false identity, to which an unprecedented migration crisis with the mass arrival of Moroccan migrants in Ceuta has been added. The Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, and his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, exchanged by telephone on Wednesday and agreed to meet very soon. This first contact has aroused a lot of hope among the populations who are impatiently awaiting the reopening of the borders.
