Spain Could Thwart Brahim Díaz’s Potential Switch to Morocco National Team

Real Madrid striker Brahim Díaz finds himself in a delicate situation. While he has started the process to play for Morocco, he could be called up by Spain, precipitating a choice for his international career.
Born in Malaga to a Moroccan father, Díaz holds dual nationality and has already worn the Spain jersey in 2021. But having not been called up since, he has reportedly decided to turn to Morocco. He would have started the process to obtain his Moroccan passport.
However, Spain has not yet had its final say and could therefore block the change. Spanish coach Luis de la Fuente has always appreciated Díaz and has not failed to make it known. "Brahim has all the options to come with the Spanish national team," he said. "He is a very good player, very important and I know him very well."
As the date of the next international deadlines approaches (matches against Colombia and Brazil), the question arises: will Spain summon Díaz to secure the player and prevent him from playing for Morocco? We remember the case of Munir El Haddadi, who had been called up by Spain and had even played a few minutes of a match to definitively rule out the Moroccan option. The Royal Moroccan Football Federation had then successfully put pressure to change the FIFA regulations and allow him to play again with the Atlas Lions.
On the one hand, Spain offers Brahim Diaz a chance to play for a world and European champion team. On the other hand, Morocco, a semi-finalist in the last World Cup in Qatar, would allow him to represent his origins and participate in the Africa Cup of Nations.
