Real Madrid Star Brahim Diaz Considers Switch to Morocco National Team
The Spanish-Moroccan attacking midfielder of Real Madrid Brahim Diaz is very close to joining the den of the Atlas Lions. A long-standing wish expressed by Walid Regragui, the coach of the Moroccan national team and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).
Will Brahim Diaz defend the colors of the Moroccan flag? The Real Madrid attacking midfielder is seeking to obtain Moroccan nationality, before taking the plunge, worries the Spanish press, including Marca. Born on August 3, 1999 in Malaga to a mother from that city, Patricia Díaz and a father of Moroccan origin from Melilla, Sufiel Abdelkader Mohand, the player only has Spanish nationality.
Brahim started his international career in the Spanish youth categories, but he has not had the opportunity to play in the senior team. He notably participated in the 2016 European Under-17 Championship organized in Azerbaijan. Given his impact on the game - four goals in La Liga, two in the Championship, one in the Cup and one in the Super Cup, plus three assists - many fans hope that Luis de la Fuente, the Spanish coach, will include his name in the next list of March, during which La Roja will play two friendly matches, one against Brazil at the Bernabéu, and the other against Colombia in London.
For the moment, De la Fuente, who is aware of Morocco’s interest in the boy, has neither called him up nor had any contact with the Malagueño. In the absence of his call-up, Brahim could therefore accept to play for Morocco. Moreover, Walid Regragui, coach of the Moroccan national team, is only waiting for his decision to call him up for the next friendly matches of the Atlas Lions. His protégés will face Angola on Friday, March 22, before crossing swords with Mauritania on Tuesday, March 26 at the Grand Stade d’Agadir during the next international break. If he chooses Morocco as his sporting nationality, the 24-year-old player will also have the opportunity to participate in the next CAN which will take place in the kingdom in 2025.
