Spain Coach Laments Brahim Diaz’s Choice to Play for Morocco Over La Roja
New information has emerged on the discussions between Brahim Diaz, the Real Madrid midfielder, and Luis de la Fuente, the coach of the Spanish national team, to convince him to wear the "La Roja" jersey.
In a recent interview, the Spanish coach expressed his regret at not being able to count on the services of the Real Madrid star, who, according to him, possesses some of the playing qualities of the Argentine prodigy Lionel Messi.
When asked about the efforts made to dissuade Brahim Diaz from joining the "Atlas Lions," Luis de la Fuente stated that the player was determined to represent Morocco.
Faced with criticism accusing him of not having handled the Brahim Diaz case adequately, the Spanish coach defended himself by stating: "It was not possible to change Brahim Diaz’s convictions. He firmly believed in his choice and was fully convinced to play for the Moroccan national team."
Luis de la Fuente refuted the accusations of his detractors by recalling that he had indeed called up the "Merengues" star to join the Spanish selection, but that the latter had chosen to play for the Moroccan team.
Luis de la Fuente says he still expresses his support for Brahim Diaz’s decision, wishing him good luck and stating that he does not blame him in any way for his choice, as he had the right to make it.
