Spain Boosts Border Security Budget with Morocco to Combat Crime and Migration

The Spanish government wants to invest more in security at its border with Morocco. This includes renewing the computer equipment of existing posts and building new police stations.

To continue to effectively combat illegal immigration, drug trafficking, terrorism, organized crime and cybercrime, Spain intends to increase the amount of spending allocated to security at its border with Morocco. According to the Secretary of State for Security, an annual budget of 54.2 million euros will be voted on for the period 2022-2025, reports Europa Press.

The Council of Ministers has approved this proposal and specified that part of this money will be used for the acquisition of computer equipment to meet the migratory challenges of the Arco Sur (Levante, the coasts of Andalusia and the Canary Islands) and for the completion of the modernization work on the internal fence of Ceuta and Melilla.

Another part of the funds will be devoted to the completion of the construction of the police stations in Almendralejo and Calatayud, in addition to those planned in Torremolinos and the central police station in Valencia as well as the construction of new Temporary Stay Centers for migrants, adds the same source.

This overall rehabilitation plan aims to provide the security services with the necessary infrastructure and resources, in quantity and quality, for the deployment of a new Integrated External Surveillance System (SIVE) and a new electronic entry and exit registration system for border posts, which will be connected to the central EES (Entry/Exit System) system that will be mandatory from 2022.
