Spain and Morocco Vie for AC Milan Star Brahim Díaz’s National Team Allegiance

The AC Milan player, Brahim Díaz, is coveted by Morocco. The Atlas Lions, who experienced a remarkable rise during the last World Cup in Qatar, are seeking to establish themselves among the great football nations and hope to convince the Spanish-Moroccan player to join Morocco. The player has not yet made his debut with the Spanish national team, which would facilitate his integration into their squad, but Spain could short-circuit Morocco by calling up Diaz at the end of March.
Walid Regragui, the coach of the Moroccan national team, wants to secure the services of the Real Madrid player at all costs. The midfielder from Malaga has signed a two-season loan contract with AC Milan and will have to return to the Spanish capital this summer to make a decision about his future. At 23, Brahim is a key player in Stefano Pioli’s system, and although his statistics are not exceptional - five goals and two assists - the player demonstrates the great quality he possesses in every match.
However, this situation could be resolved if Luis de la Fuente decides to call him up and play him in the Euro qualifiers against Norway and Scotland. The first list of the new Spanish coach will be announced at the end of March and Brahim could be among the selected players. If he plays for the Spanish national team, he will no longer be able to represent Morocco, as he will have exceeded the age limit of 21.
It should be noted that Luis Enrique had already included him in a national team list in November 2021, but he did not make his debut. According to Bein Sports, the Moroccan coach is trying to convince the player to join his team. This situation could be resolved during the next call-up scheduled for March.
Brahim Diaz’s future remains uncertain. AC Milan wants to keep him, but should pay a clause of 22 million euros, knowing that Real Madrid would have the right of redemption for 27 million, which would only represent an investment of five million for the Rossoneri. Carlo Ancelotti sees him as Marco Asensio’s replacement, who is slow to renew his contract.
