Snowstorms and Cold Snap to Hit Morocco’s Mountainous Regions

Morocco is preparing for a cold wave with snow expected in several regions of the country.
According to the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM), the provinces of Azilal, Beni Mellal, Al Haouz, Midelt, Tinghir and Ouarzazate will see their heights, exceeding 1,500 meters in altitude, covered with 20 to 40 cm of snow between Saturday and Monday.
The provinces of Ifrane, Chichaoua, Boulemane and Taroudant will also be affected by these snowfalls, with an expected accumulation of 10 to 20 cm, according to an orange alert bulletin from the DGM.
This cold wave is due to the arrival of polar air from Northern Europe, which will also lead to a sharp drop in temperatures across the country. Sporadic showers are expected, particularly in the north of the country.
This weather disturbance puts an end to a prolonged anticyclonic period, and should bring a slight improvement to Morocco’s water resources.
