Smuggler Caught with $1 Million in Gold Hidden Under Diapers at Spanish Border

26 kilos of 18 carat gold were seized by the Guardia Civil elements and the tax services inside a vehicle belonging to a Moroccan national coming from Almeria, and transiting through the port of Melilla.
Carefully hidden in boxes covered with layers of children’s diapers, the jewelry is estimated, according to the Spanish Guardia Civil, at nearly 900,000 euros.
Of Moroccan nationality, the 48-year-old individual, residing in Alicante, in the east of the country, was brought before the courts on charges of trafficking and money laundering.
Initially, the trafficker, whose merchandise was subjected to an expert assessment, had presented himself as a jeweler; but the security services quickly denied his allegations.
