Slight earthquake in Morocco
A magnitude 4 earthquake was recorded on Friday at 5:13 pm in the province of Sidi Kacem. The epicenter is located in the commune of Sidi Ahmed Benaissa at a depth of 33 kilometers, reports the National Institute of Geophysics.
The special seismic bulletin specifies that the coordinates of the tremor were located at 34.738 degrees north latitude and 5.783 degrees west longitude. This telluric movement was clearly perceived by the inhabitants of the region.
Nasser Jabour, director of the National Institute of Geophysics, classified this event among the "felt" shocks. However, he specified that the activity remains normal, recalling that the province of Sidi Kacem has already recorded similar phenomena in the past.
Although the area is not known for significant seismic activity, the specialist indicates that Morocco is currently recording scattered seismic centers. This situation, described as common, does not reflect a major evolution of regional seismicity.
