Minor Earthquake Strikes Northern Morocco, No Damage Reported

Morocco has again suffered a slight earthquake this Monday, May 6. With a magnitude of 2.2 on the Richter scale, the tremor was felt 61 kilometers east of the city of Ouezzane, in the north of the kingdom.
The earthquake was recorded on Monday at 00:03 and apparently did not cause any material or human damage, reports a website specialized in seismic monitoring. This type of tremor is recurrent in Morocco, observes for his part Nasser Jabour, director of the National Institute of Geophysics (INGP), in charge of seismic monitoring in Morocco.
"We record hundreds of shocks every week with a magnitude between 2 and 3 degrees in all regions of the kingdom. That’s why they are generally not perceptible to the population," explained the expert, trying to reassure the population.
This frequency of aftershocks is a consequence of the devastating earthquake that struck the Al Haouz region on the night of September 8, added Nasser Jabour. "There is always pressure on the earth’s crust and this can result in aftershocks."
