Magnitude 5.2 Earthquake Strikes Northwestern Morocco, Felt in Major Cities

An earthquake of magnitude 5.2 shook the province of Ouezzane, in northwestern Morocco, on Monday evening.
The epicenter, located at a depth of 20 kilometers, was located in the commune of Brikcha. The tremor, which occurred at 11:48:43 PM, was felt in several cities of the country, including Rabat, Salé, Témara, Kénitra and Casablanca.
The National Institute of Geophysics (ING) confirmed the information, specifying the exact coordinates of the epicenter: 34.954 degrees North latitude and 5.635 degrees West longitude.
For the moment, the local authorities contacted by the MAP press agency have not reported any damage. This earthquake, however, recalls the tragic earthquake that had struck the Marrakech region in 2023, causing the death of 2,900 people and injuring 5,600.
