Singer Patrick Bruel Slams Islamophobia in French Politics, Warns of Radicalization

On the occasion of the release of his 11th album, Patrick Bruel expressed his indignation at the Islamophobic discourse heard during the campaign of the last presidential election in France.
The 63-year-old artist refuses the amalgamation according to which a Muslim is an Islamist, considering that it is "too easy to build one’s ground on that". It was "sometimes insulting for Muslims who live in France and practice their religion normally. By putting everyone in the same bag, we are creating radicalization," he said in an interview with the newspaper Le Parisien, denouncing the Islamophobic discourse heard during the campaign of the last presidential election.
Patrick Bruel also talks about Algeria and Tlemcen where he was born, in a song called "Je reviens", which renews his desire to visit his native country. "We will probably go back there. We were raised in the love of Algeria. There were never in the mouths of my grandparents words of hatred, violence, revenge," he says. The singer also mentioned his film "L’union sacrée", released in 1989, which tells the story of two policemen, one Jewish and the other Muslim, and denounced religious fundamentalism.
