French Summer Tourism Slumps: Morocco Sees 21% Drop as Economic Woes Hit Travel Industry

The assessment of the 2025 summer tourist season for French travelers is in sharp decline, according to the latest barometer from the Enterprises du Voyage (EdV), which highlights a significant drop for Morocco.
Thus, the number of booking files has fallen by 8.2% compared to the summer of 2024, with a particularly marked drop of 10% in the month of August alone, according to the report published by BFM.
The sector attributes this trend to a "delicate political, economic and social context", citing in particular geopolitical uncertainty, a decline in purchasing power and a general increase in the prices of stays. Despite a slight increase in the overall average basket (+2% to 2,093 euros), this was not enough to offset the decrease in the number of departures.
All destinations are affected, but some more heavily than others. Among medium-haul destinations, Morocco is recording one of the largest declines, with a 21% drop in the number of files. Other popular destinations such as Spain (-12%), Greece (-11%) and Tunisia (-11%) are also in sharp decline. Long-haul travel is also affected, with the Dominican Republic falling by 31%. Only a few destinations such as Egypt or Canada have seen growth.
Valérie Boned, President of the Enterprises du Voyage, analyzes this evolution as a reflection of "a later and more sensitive purchasing behavior to the issue of purchasing power". The trend does not seem to be reversing for the late season, with forecasts for departures in September currently down 6% compared to 2024, with a 15% decline in long-haul travel.
