Severe Winter Weather Hits Morocco: Heavy Snow, Cold Snap, and High Winds Expected

Several Moroccan regions will face heavy snowfall, temperature drops and strong gusts of wind, from Friday to Sunday. The announcement was made by the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM), in a special weather bulletin.

Snowfall with a depth of 20 to 40 cm in 24 hours is expected from Friday to Saturday in the provinces of Al Haouz, Al Hoceima, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Boulemane, Chichaoua, El Hajeb, Figuig, Guercif, Ifrane, Jerada, Khenifra, Midelt, Ouarzazate, Sefrou, Oujda, Taourirt, Taza and Tinghir, the DGM said in an orange level alert.

Also during the same period, cold weather, with temperatures ranging from -08/-03° to 01/06°C, is expected from Friday to Sunday in the provinces of Al Haouz, Azilal, Midelt, Beni Mellal, Boulemane and Tinghir, the same source said. On the other hand, the temperature will vary between -02/02 and 03/08°C in the provinces of Al Hoceima, Chichaoua, El Hajeb, Figuig, Guercif, Ifrane, Jerada, Khenifra, Ouarzazate, Sefrou, Taourirt and Taza.

On Friday, strong gusts of wind (75 to 85km/h) are expected in the provinces of Al Hoceima, Boulemane, Chefchaouen, Fahs-Anjra, Guercif, Ifrane, Larache, Mdiq-Fnideq, Midelt, Oujda-Angad, Sefrou, Tanger-Assilah, Taounate, Taourirt, Taza and Tetouan. The same will be the case on Saturday, in the provinces of Al Haouz, Al Hoceima, Azilal, Berkane, Chtouka- Ait Baha, Driouch, Figuig, Guelmim, Guercif, Midelt, Nador, Ouarzazate, Oujda-Angad, Sidi Ifni, Taroudant, Taza and Tiznit, it is also reported.
