Severe Weather Alert: Morocco Braces for 75 mph Winds and Heavy Thunderstorms
Gusts of wind and locally heavy thunderstorms are expected from Wednesday to Friday in several provinces of the Kingdom, according to the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM).
In a special red-level weather alert, the DGM warns that locally heavy thunderstorms of up to 130 mm in 24 hours are expected from Wednesday to Friday in the provinces of Tanger-Assilah, Fahs-Anjra, Mdiq-Fnideq, Chefchaouen, Tétouan, Larache, Safi and the mountains of Al Hoceima, Taroudant and Al Haouz. These accumulations may be locally exceeded in the mountains of the mentioned provinces.
The provinces of Agadir-Ida-Outanane, Inzegane-Ait-Melloul, Chtouka-Ait-Baha, Essaouira, Chichaoua, Sidi Bennour, El Jadida, Berrechid, Nouasser, Casablanca, Mediouna, Mohammedia, Benslimane, Skhirat-Temara, Rabat, Salé, Khemisset, Kénitra, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Ouezzane and Taounate will also be affected during the same period by locally heavy thunderstorms of an orange level up to 70 mm in 24 hours. They could be accompanied by hail in places.
During the same period, strong gusts of wind at the red level up to 120 km/h are to be feared this Friday in the provinces of Essaouira, Chichaoua, Al Haouz, Azilal, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Midelt, Errachidia and Figuig. They will be preceded by strong gusts of wind at the orange level (75 to 90 km/h), this same Wednesday in the provinces of Chichaoua, El Jadida, Essaouira, Safi, Sidi Bennour and Youssoufia.
The same phenomenon will be observed on Thursday in the provinces of Al Haouz, Assa-Zag, Chefchaouen, Chichaoua, Casablanca, Berrechid, Mediouna, Mohammedia, Nouaceur, Benslimane, Settat, El Jadida, Errachidia, Essaouira, Fahs-Anjra, Larache, Mdiq-Fnideq, Midelt, Ouarzazate, Safi, Sidi Bennour, Tanger-Assilah, Tarfaya, Taroudant, Tinghir, Youssoufia and Zagora. In addition, these strong gusts are expected on Friday in the provinces of Safi, Jerada and Agadir-Ida-Outanane.
