Severe Floods and Winds in Morocco: Do Not Take the Road, Warns the Ministry

The alert is serious. Following the red bulletins issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM), forecasting extreme conditions, particularly on the central Atlantic coast (Agadir, Taroudant, Essaouira), the Interior Department urges the population to anticipate the dangers. The forecasts are worrying: rainfall accumulations that could reach 120 mm, wind gusts of up to 100 km/h, and significant snowfall on the Atlas mountains above 1600 meters.

In this context, the ministry strongly discourages any unnecessary risk-taking. Citizens are asked to stay away from watercourses, low-lying areas that may experience sudden floods, and to avoid crossing submerged road sections. The watchword is clear: postpone non-essential travel, particularly in red and orange alert areas, and strictly comply with the directives of the local authorities.

To cope with this Atlantic depression, the State has activated a vast preventive action plan. Cleaning operations of drainage networks and clearing of black spots have been carried out upstream to facilitate water evacuation. The ministry assures that significant human and logistical resources have been mobilized and placed on maximum alert to intervene quickly in case of emergency, calling on the sense of responsibility of each individual to avoid tragedies.
