Severe Flooding Hits Tangier After Heavy Rainfall, Overwhelming Drainage Systems

Heavy showers that occurred late Friday afternoon in Tangier caused flooding in several neighborhoods of the city. The rainy episode, which lasted about an hour, led to the saturation of the drainage networks.
Several neighborhoods were affected by these rising waters. Among the most affected areas are the Branes neighborhood, as well as some alleys and roads in the Aouama and Bni Makada neighborhoods. Residents of these areas reported traffic difficulties.
On social media, videos posted by residents show the extent of the flooding. They have expressed their discontent, calling on the authorities and demanding a rapid intervention. They denounce a lack of anticipation in the face of this type of weather event. Testimonies accuse "some officials of negligence and shortcomings".
