Heavy Floods Disrupt Transportation and Schools in Northern Morocco

Many neighborhoods in the province of Chefchaouen have been under water since Thursday, after the heavy rains that hit the region, causing floods that blocked traffic between Tetouan and Al Hoceima.
National road N°16 connecting Tetouan to Al Hoceima was submerged by rainwater and mud, causing a disruption of traffic on this road axis. Several cars and buses remained stuck on this road until the intervention of bulldozers to clear the way and allow traffic to resume.
Faced with these floods, teachers and students have asked the services of the Ministry of National Education in Chefchaouen and Tetouan to suspend classes in the affected rural municipalities, in application of the provisions of Ministerial Circular No. 134/18 on protection against weather-related risks.
On Facebook, Internet users have insisted on the need for the competent services of the Ministry of Education to consider the weather alert bulletins from the General Directorate of Meteorology in order to ensure the safety of students, educational staff and learners. These weather bulletins announced heavy rainfall and significant snowfall in several regions of the kingdom.
