The North of Morocco under water (video)

It only took half an hour of rain for M’Diq to sink into chaos. Storm Emilia hit the coast hard on Saturday, isolating entire neighborhoods and flooding businesses and homes. In Fnideq, the assessment is just as bitter: on the seafront promenade, parking lots were completely submerged, severely damaging the parked vehicles.

These damages starkly highlight the saturation of the drainage network. The water, laden with waste, found no outlet, blocked by unsuitable constructions and barriers preventing its natural runoff to the sea.

In the province of Tétouan, traffic was cut off on several roads, trapping the residents. While the local authorities have multiplied emergency interventions to drain the black spots, the population is protesting against an urban planning management deemed irrational, which turns each major storm into a trap.
