Tangier Grapples with Severe Traffic Congestion Amid Rapid Growth

The multiplication of monstrous traffic jams is gradually suffocating the city of Tangier to the point of making driving almost impossible.
Demographic explosion, transformation into an industrial hub attracting labor from different Moroccan cities, adoption of new decisions on traffic and transportation... While it is preparing to host continental and international events, Tangier is facing a major challenge: monstrous traffic jams.
According to local stakeholders, the efforts made, the road networks and the various infrastructure projects show their limits. They are no longer able to absorb the growing number of vehicles circulating in the city. Other difficulties raised by these stakeholders: the considerable weakness of urban transport, which is mainly based on traditional means such as taxis and buses. A problem already solved in other countries.
While cities on a global scale have moved to more advanced and fluid means, Tangier is still, unfortunately, lagging behind.
