Tangier Roads Gridlocked as Summer Tourists and Expatriates Flood City

Significant traffic jams make circulation difficult on the roads of Tangier during this summer period marked by the influx of Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) and tourists.
Difficult days on the roads of Tangier. The level of traffic jams begins to decline from noon on the city center roads until the early hours of the morning. Every summer day, and more precisely during rush hour from 6 p.m., we observe congestion of the road network. The roads become more congested by all types of means of transport, with a remarkable presence of many motorcycles, we note.
The recently installed viaducts thus show their limits. Several causes have been identified: the influx of MREs, traffic violations, in addition to the reckless behavior of some drivers who violate the law and traffic rules.
In addition to the traffic jams on the city’s roads, another major problem is observed. This is the problem of public transport, which is unable to absorb the huge number of passengers who wait for buses for hours.
