Cracks Emerge in Tangier’s New Roads After Heavy Rains

The recent bad weather that hit Tangier has tested the solidity of its road infrastructure. And the finding is clear: several major roads show signs of weakness, calling into question the quality of the work carried out and the rigor of the controls.
One of the most striking examples is that of the Tetouan road. This project, costing 18 million dirhams, aimed to transform a roundabout into a semi-roundabout to improve the entry into the city. A large-scale construction site, spanning two kilometers, which was part of the wilaya’s desire to improve traffic at the "U-Turn" world roundabout. Yet, less than two months after the completion of the work, cracks have appeared, indicating obvious defects, noted Al3omk.
The question then arises of the monitoring of these construction sites. The engineer of the wilaya, a central figure in the supervision of public works, had validated the end of the operations, ensuring that the road was in good condition. A green light which, given the observed degradations, now appears premature.
This is not the first time that such problems have been reported in Tangier. The same source noted similar malfunctions. Ten million dirhams had been invested in this project, supervised by the former wali and entrusted to a company from Marrakech. Here again, the rains had quickly highlighted major defects.
These successive events are troubling. How can road projects, representing significant public investments, degrade so quickly? Is the quality of the materials used at fault? Are the control procedures strict enough?
