Settling scores in Belgium: the trio wanted to take refuge in Morocco

The incident dates back to last Monday, in the Termien district of Genk. Residents had raised the alarm after hearing shots near the TNT youth center. At the scene, the emergency services had found a 24-year-old man lying in his blood, hit by four or five bullets. While one of them had passed through his body, the victim miraculously survived, with no vital organs being hit. After a critical night, his life is no longer in danger.

Very quickly, the investigation conducted by the federal judicial police of Limburg directed suspicions towards the local drug milieu, where a latent conflict seems to have degenerated. The authorities also link this attempted assassination to other similar incidents that have recently occurred in the region.

Identified by the investigators but untraceable in Belgium, the three suspects had taken the road south. Their escape plan was to cross the Iberian peninsula to find refuge in Morocco. They were finally stopped dead in their tracks in Spain. Currently incarcerated there, they are now awaiting extradition to Belgium to be heard by the investigating judge in Tongres on their precise involvement in this bloody score-settling.
