Sebta to Implement ’Smart Border’ with Facial Recognition, Enhancing Security and Efficiency

The Government of the Spanish enclave of Sebta will implement the "Smart Border" Project. It allows facial recognition of people. The tests, initiated for this purpose in July 2019 at the Tarajal II crossing, will target the strengthening of security systems and the passage of goods, in particular.
The objective of this new control procedure is to be able to identify the people who have access to the city of Sebta, in particular, through their names, first names, facial photos and then dates of entry and exit.
As an additional security measure, the system will reduce control times, strengthen border security and identify people who do not respect the length of stay.
The electronic management of passports will also allow the creation of a database of travelers, who number 15,000 per day at the Tarajal II crossing point. More than 2,500 vehicles transit daily through this post.
