The sea arrives in... Marrakech

The mega-project of desalinated water transfer connecting Safi to Marrakech has a progress rate exceeding 85%. This major infrastructure aims to secure the drinking water supply of the region in the face of persistent water stress.

The construction sites are progressing at a sustained pace with the installation of nearly 180 kilometers of pipelines out of the 185 planned. The completion of these final sections is expected in the coming weeks, paving the way for effective commissioning as early as April.

This structuring project mobilizes a global budget envelope of around 4.2 billion dirhams. It has been designed to guarantee a sustainable supply to the inhabitants of Marrakech and the surrounding areas, who are currently facing increasing pressure on their traditional natural resources.

The infrastructure will convey a total estimated volume of nearly 80 million cubic meters of water each year.
